De Stijl

De Stijl, meaning “The Style” in Dutch, was a group of artists & architects from the Netherlands. Their principles: SIMPLICITY + ABSTRACTION + UNIVERSALITY- using vertical & horizontal lines, making squares & rectangles; primary colors blue, red & yellow; non-colors gray, white & black. What can be more universal than these? Their works’ simple outcomes have made DE STIJL still relevant today, a century after the group’s inception. And there’s not a sign that this will change in the near future.
